DEVRİM ARABALARI-REVOLUTION CARS...

After having a tiring week with exams and assignments, I suggested my friends to go to the cinema. At first I didn't know which film to go.While wondering in the dormitory, I saw the poster of a film whose name is ''Devrim Arabaları''.At that moment I thought that I should see that film. Its casting seemed so good. There were a lot of well-known players.I wondered what was its main theme. Then, Özge, Nurten and I went to see that film yesterday. We waited for its starting impatiently. When the film started, I began to understand the real things.Turkey was in a difficult time. Cemal Gürsel wanted to make our cars by ourselves, that is to say, Turkey must produce its own cars, made them in Turkey. Some people working for the government didn't want that. But some engineers thought that they could achieve this and make a good start. They had four to months to make 'one car'.Its name was going to be 'Devrim'.But later, they were wanted to finish two cars in four months time.And..they could manage this despite all negative things-very little funds and people not wanting that project.Few minutes after Cemal Gürsel got on the car, the benzine run out off.And it was said that Devrim stayed on the road..There were some perfect expressions in the film: 'No success is out of punishment.' and ' As a matter of fact, there would be no allowance for a car whose name is Devrim to wander in the streets.'I think you should see this film...

NEGATIVE EFFECTS OF SHOPPING MALLS

While shopping malls have an effect on people's lives, not all of their effects have been positive. Most of the shops and services found in malls are parts of large corporations. These businesses take away customers from smaller shops in near towns, forcing many of them to close. That has led to fewer individually owned businesses and less local control over jobs.In addition, malls are harmful to the environment. They are often built on land that is important to the survival of birds and wild animals.Wherever they are built, they cover large areas with buildings and parking places-instead of trees or grass. Thus they contribute to the loss of nature. And finally, malls are usually built far away from the city or town center. This means that people must go to those malls by their own cars, resulting in increased air pollution and heavy traffic on nearby roads.

TRAVELLİNG TO A COUNTRY

I want to visit most of countries in the world.I don't know why, but when it is asked which country I want to visit, England comes to my mind.ıt is the most populous and ethnically most diverse nation in the UK.The buildings there spectacular, I think. There are some important castles and forts in England, including Warwick Castle, the Tower of London and Windsor Castle which is the largest inhabited castle in the world and the oldest in continuous occupation.ıts climate is temperate, but the weather is usually rainy. So it has the scene of green.Dishes forming part of the old tradition of English food include fish and chips, apple pie, mash, steak and kidney pie and so on.These are facts about England. It is important to go to a foreign country to improve our english. This country doesn't need to be England, of course. But I want to start from somewhere.

CHARACTERSISTICS OF A FRIEND

Being friends with someone may sound simple to some people, but it is not as it is seemed. If you make friends only for spending time together, you can be friends with everyone. The first thing I pay attention in a relationship is honesty. I can say that it is the foundation of friendship. Of course, this is not the only thing I look for in a relationship. Humor is a good element for a healthy friendship. If your friend is a serious person, it is inevitable that you will get bored very quickly. You can share something with your friend, so it is also important to have some common ideas about life.My friend's being a punctual person is also important to me.If he or she is late again and again, I can get bored with this situation, too.

Communicating with e-mail is popular for many reasons. It allows us to send a message to many people at the same time. And it is a good way to send messages to people who do not like using the telephone=)It takes little time to send and receive these email messages. From your computer you can contact to people who are far away. You can get a response instantly, too.You can also send an email message to a person in the next room.It is helpful in many work areas, as it is used for communication between employers, clients and employeees.

Building a House...

People usually build their houses with the materials that are easily available to them.In some areas, most of the houses are made from wood.We can see this in the north parts of Turkey and in some other countries, such as North America and Scandinavia. These areas have large forests. When it is like that, wood is easy to get.And it is also inexpensive. In some other areas where there are few forests most people build their houses with stones and bricks. These two materials are a bit cheaper. In tropical regions, houses are sometimes made from plants which are grown there. For instance; in some parts of Africa and Asia, houses may be made from bamboo. And we can see houses which are made from ice in the very cold areas, such as Arctic.

Television's Affect On Family Life

In the 1950s, people thought television had a positive effect on family life. While watching television, all family members were together in one room.Since everyone was quiet and watched TV, it also put an end to the common family arguments. These days ,however, psychologists think that watching television may not be so good for family relationships. They believe that it may be better for the family to have arguments sometimes, instead of being quiet all the time in front of the TV set. When TV is on, there is usually little or no communication among the family members. Most of the communication happens in one way:from TV program to an individual.

People's Interests In Bees

People have always been interested in bees. This interest may have begun with the honey that bees make.In fact, researchers have found evidence that people have been eating honey for many thousand of years. In the more recent past, people were curious about how bees made honey. They admired the way bees worked so hard. Some languages even developed expressions about people working like bees.In English, for example, we talk about a busy bee.Now scientists have a new reason to be interested in bees. They have discovered that bees are able to communicate with each other.Research has revealed some surprising facts about this, but there are still many mysteries.

I started to take French class this year.I chose it, because I was curious about it and I wanted to learn it.So I decided to take it as my second language. When I told my friends or some other people about that, they said'Why did you do such a thing?French is very difficult.'As you understand, they didn't like that idea. But I'm happy with it.I like learning French.Everything is ok and perfect in my french class now.So I have no regrets about being a french learner.

A NICE MEMORY

In tenth class at high school, we decided to go the picnic as a class. The picnic day came and everything was ready for it.But there was something wrong. The clouds in the sky showed that it was going to rain.Anyway we had our lessons in the morning. In the afternoon we went to the hill we decided to go.We made barbecue, rode bicycles, played with balls. Our english teacher also joined us some time later. She sang songs for us.We recorded her voice and we had videos of that lovely day.We took a walk upside the hill and saw the scene from there. It was fascinating. The picnic was over.We went to our school and got on our school buses.And..a few minutes later it started to rain.

WAS IT A DREAM?

After he had come from school, he went to his room.He threw away his bag, put off his coat and then settled down his seat.He turned on his computer and wore headphones to listen to music. He chose one song, but it was a bit different. There was the sound of trombone in it.He was going to change the song, but the mouse wasn't moving. He got angry.Suddenly he remembered that he had homework to be done immediately. He opened his book and notebook. After wearing his glasses, he started to read a text. But a few minutes later he was in a deep sleep. In his dream, he saw an UFO and aliens. They landed on his world. One of them had a wand in its hands. It touched to a flower with it and the flower turned into a baby. Then they took the baby to their UFO and set off for their planet. He jumped from his bed with fear. Was it real? His mobile phone was ringing at the same time.'Ohh it was just a dream..', he said.He thougt it was his friend, so he answered the phone. But it wasn't his friend.Someone was saying'It wasn't a dream!..'

IT IS MY FAVOURITE=)

I'm a fan of Hatırla Sevgili..It is my favourite TV series that I watched every scene of it.At first, when I saw its fragment, I thougt that it would be a good serie. But I didn't suppose I would watch it so enthusiastically. When it was started to shown on TV, I missed a few episodes of it.That was not a problem, since I watched them later.Although I know what happened in each episode, I still watch them again and again when I find an opportunity. That doesn't bother me.Hatırla Sevgili is a story which is based on a love affair. In fact, it tells us that because of political reasons these people loving each other can't be together. It also informs us about what happened in our country between the years 1960 and 1980.Beren Saat, Okan Yalabık and Cansel Elçin were at the leading roles. It lasted for two years.I wanted it to continue, but it would be better for it to finish.

DO YOU NEED A COMPANION?

Our country is vast from west to east and it takes hours to go from one end of it to another end with a bus.Have you ever had to travel such for a long way and time?Even if you didn't experience such thing before, you can get accustomed to it after travelling one time.If you travel at night, it is possible to sleep. But it is inevitable feeling tired when the journey ends. There is no chance for you to do anything different rather than sleeping, listening mp3 or watching film shown in the bus if you don't have a companion. You sometimes need to talk to someone. How can you do this in asituation like this?you don't know the person sitting near you.Sometimes even if you don't speak, your unknown companion can start a conversation!

I HAVE HEADACHE!

Is it possible for a person not to have a headache while he is living? The answer is no for this question. As we see people having headaches at every age, even a child can have it.Well then why this happens? There are physical and psychological reasons for it.I heard from one of my friends that when you sleep disorderly you can feel pain in your back, forehead, face etc..This happens because your muscles are strained and that leads to headache. When we think about something so much, our brain gets tired.we feel tired and stressful, also.So we have headache and we take painkillers to relieve that pain.If we had a more peaceful and smooth life, we wouldn't need to take such kind of pills. They may make us feel better when we have headache, but they affect us adversely and we can see their bad results later in our lives.

MY TOWN -KİRAZ..

My hometown is one of the smallest ones of İzmir.I can say that it is also one of the most far away one from the centre of İzmir. It takes two and a half hours to go there. Its population is around ten thousand. There are four districts in it.It is so small that you can go anywhere you want on foot. There is one branches of Küçük Menderes flowing through middle of Kiraz and it seems as if it separates the town into two pieces.Kiraz is like a bowl surrendered with mountains. That appearance led its name change according to it.Its name was changed many times(five or six times) and finally became Kiraz. Before this name, its name was Keles and some people also use that one today. There are historical places in my town which prove that it has importance at history stage. One of them is Hisar Castle built by Selçuklular.Another one is İsa Bey Mosque in the centre of Kiraz. It stands there approximately for seven centuries.you can see many other castles on mountains or fountains in villages. It is nice to take a walk around it.It has beautiful parks where you can spend time with your family or friends.I like living there.

WHAT IS THAT TOY DOING?

Does this small boy really think that toy is real?He seems afraid of it.He is raising both of his hands. He looks like a person who is capitulated by his enemy. The toy is a robot. How is it behaving like that?It points its gun to the child.Poor child! He is looking at the gun but he is trying to do that without being noticed. Is he thinking about what will happen next or what this small thing is doing? It seems like a critical case=)

White Paradise

When I arrived in that village, I was face to face with a house looking forward to a new day.It had stairs outside and there were two balconies. One of them was on the second floor, the other one was on the third floor. And there was an addition of that house near of it on one floor. The house was circled by some trees. The lamps were on as if they were the eyes of that house.Smoke were coming from the chimney very calmly.Snow was everywhere...It surrounded everything even the tiniest branch of a tree. They seemed pleased from that situation. There weren't any foot steps or any other marks on the surface of that white paradise.Although we were in winter and the cold frightened me, the appearance of that village's entry was so relaxing that I wondered other parts of it.I was excited to experience the peaceful life there.

ARE YOU LUCKY ENOUGH TO GET SOMEWHERE IN LIFE?

People have to work hard if they want to get a good position or have a good career.Everybody knows this. And when you ask someone who is successful in the field of his or her job, 'How did you manage to come that position?', you can get the answer of 'I worked hard./I come to that position by working hard.'The sentences can be a bit different but the common point, also the main point, is the same:Working hard is necessary to be successful in life. But I don't think it is the only factor of being successful in our lifes. There must be somethingelse that completes our success. Our destinies can affect it a bit.Having a chance or being lucky is a subdiary factor that enhances our success, I think. If we ahve some bad lucks while doing some works, we may give up.So, to continue our works in a willing way it will be better to have some chances during these hard works. But working hard is much more important than being lucky.

TRY TO BE AN ORDERLY PERSON!

I admire people who do their works orderly! How can they manage to do that? They do the things on time, so they don't need to hurry up or worry about them. Some people don't want to do their duties on scheduled time just for they don't want to do or maybe they have other important things to be done immediately. We don't know!People doing their works in an organized way have a tidy life style.Getting up early is one of their features. After getting up they start to do their works and finish them successfully and obtain satisfaction from doing that.Others prefer doing entertaining things, staying awake until very late hours and going to bed nearly in the morning! So it is very difficult for them to get up.They also feel tired. They start to do their works but can't manage to finish them.Maybe they can be able to do that by working very late at night. And this continues like that...If we don't want to have such kind of difficulties, we try to be an orderly person.

COUNTRYSIDE OR BIG CITY?

When we ask people where they want to live, in a big city or in countryside, I think the answer wiil be like that:The ones living in big cities may say they wanna to live in countryside, others living in countryside will probably say the opposite of this. Why they react to that question in such a different way?I can say that their answers are these, because they don't know the oyher life we offer them in the question. So they wonder it and think that it is better to live there. They look from their own sides, maybe only see the bad effects of their living places. For a person who lives in a big city life can be too stressful because of crowd, noise, dirtiness, transportation...For they don't experience the life of countryside, they see countryside as a restful place.Contrary to that, people of countryside can say that they don't have enough alternatives to do good things due to the fact that they are far away from the centre of city. When you live in a big city, you can reach whatever you want.In my opinion, it is better to have a house in countryside and live thereBecause you are close to the nature. You can see the beauty of it, feel it.

Caring About Our Past

We can't deny this fact that learning about the past helps us not to make serious mistakes repeatedly. There is a proverb saying that "Past sheds light to future".Living in the present doesn't mean forgetting all of the things related to the past.We must learn about our past and make inferences about it.One of the reasons why we do that is to learn how our ancestors reacted to events that occured in the past. Those events may happen in today's world, too.Who can know? That's why we should investigate our past.Another reason for learning our past is to become acknowledged about our culture. When we learn something about it, we can add something different ot it and make our culture richer.Seeing the difficulties our ancestors faced with is one other factor for learning our past.Since if we see those difficulties, we realize the things we have now and possess them more strongly. It is important for leaving these things to new generations...

Having a Pet Must Be a Good Thing!

Having a pet in your house will sound good to you if you like animals. But taking care of them is an important job to deal with.Because they are living creatures and need to be looked after carefully!Pets having such merciful owners are lucky. If you could, try looking after an animal as it will bring advantages to the both sides(animal and owner).Which animal would you prefer if you had a chance to look after it at home?Lovebirds, cats, dogs, fish , hamsters are the mostly chosen ones.It isn't a matter whichone you choose, the important point is what it will bring to have a pet or an owner. These animals can be your friends maybe the most intimate, closest friends! If you live on your own that is inevitable in anyway!Spending time with them can take us from the stress of daily life.It is also benefical for animals to have owners. They can eat when they are hungry, sleep in a hot place. So they can understand the love of their owners..To become a bit relaxed and forget about the things have a pet at your home share life or something with it.

Where Do We Eat?

Do you cook at home? For some people cooking is an enjoyable hobby. They spend their time in the kitchen to make delicious meals. They eat their meals with complacency. They know how they cook it and what they put in it.That is to say when we prepare our meals at home, we can eat it with comfort due to the fact that we know how we prepare it.Of course, our homes aren't the only places where we can eat. There are many restaurants to eat something, but are they healthy enough to eat there?Eating outside can sometimes be necessary or people may want to eat outside to make a difference. In these cases, we have no other choice but to eat in these places.

Face to Face Communication

There are a lot of ways to communicate with people.Telephones, letters, emails and so on...But we often forget one of them.Face to face communication..It is not used very much. And we can't use, either.People are very busy and don't have much time to see their friends or meet with their friends or relatives or neighbours etc.To facilitate the communication we use technological devices instead of face to face communication.Of course when we need it,for example in problematic situations, we should allocate time to it.If only we always had enough time to use that way, but we couldn't.

Studying alone or with a group?Which one do you choose?

Some students prefer to study alone. But is it a right decision? In fact, this situation varies from person to person. For me it is better to study alone. But studying with a group of people can sometimes be profitable. For example in a group, you share your ideas with other people and learn many other things which you don't know.while studying with a group, there may be some discussions.these can help you to learn, too.Because you don't forget the subject that was discussed easily. On the other hand, studying alone helps us to learn many things by ourselves.when we do like that, we repeat the subject many times. So if we do this, we make a permanent learning.

Is METU a nice place?

I have wanted to come metu sincae two years and..now I'm here=)There was a school trip to Ankara two years ago. Most of my classmates joined that trip, but I didn't.My parents didn't let me go.Metu was one of the places which they would visit. After they came back from there, they talked about it so much. They said that they had liked metu very much. After that I thought I must be a student of metu.I did some search about it and learned that it had a lot of advantages. Its campus is also very beautiful.I think its one of the most pretty ones in Turkey and I like it much more than any other things. To sum up I try to be happy here.

Is METU a nice place?
